Sunday Recap

September 30, 2013

I preached my last sermon in my revival prep series this morning in a sermon entitled, “What Does Love Look Like?” out of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

Main Idea of the Text:  Paul instructed the Corinthians church concerning what love would look like in their lives.

Main Idea of the Sermon:  This text shows us what real love looks like in our lives.

I.          Real Christian love is spiritual (4a).

Galatians 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.

Romans 15:5:  Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:7:  that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

II.         Real Christian love is selfless (4b-5).

Philippians 2:4-8:  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

III.        Real Christian love is impartial (6).

Psalm 10:3:  For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; he blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.

3 John 3:  For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.

IV.        Real Christian love is enduring (7).

Romans 15:1:  We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Galatians 6:2:  Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

On Sunday evening we had a Solemn Assembly service of music, scriptures, and prayers related to revival.  There was no message in the evening worship service.
