We had a great Sunday morning attendance for a holiday weekend. Some of our folks were getting I some last minute vacation time before the official end of summer.
This Sunday morning I began a revival preparation series. for the next four weeks I will take a break from the book of Judges and preach on some issues the Lord ahs laid on my heart as we approach our fall revival in October.
This morning we looked at 1 John 2:15-17, “A Love Affair with the World.”
Main Idea of the Text: John warned his readers not to love the world.
Main Idea of the Sermon: Christians should not fall into the sin of loving the world.
Why is it so important that Christians not fall into the sin of loving the world?
This text reveals three dangers any Christian faces if he falls into the sin of loving the world.
I. Christians must know that loving the world is treacherous (15).
Dr. Danny Akin: Because the Father’s kingdom is at war with the kingdom of this world, the two will never coexist
II. Christians must know that loving the world is tempting (16).
A. The lust of the flesh is tempting to our appetites.
B. The lust of the eyes is tempting to our affections.
C. The pride of life is tempting to our ambitions.
III. Christians must know that loving the world is temporal (17).
Because of the holiday weekend we did not have Sunday evening services.
